Those darn resolutions

It’s the last day of 2005, and I’m thinking more of how fucked up it’s going to be when I actually pack my luggage (because I know I’m going to forget something and I’ll probably not be able to fit all that I want into the suitcase) than thinking about new year resolutions for 2006. And since it’s probably something that most bloggers do on the 31st when they post in their blogs, I figure I’LL GO IN THE OTHER DIRECTION AND NOT WRITE ABOUT IT. :)

Go me!

Unplanned but very welcomed

I should not go out with enough money for Blythe related purchases EVER. I went out to meet Joanna for lunch, and came home (thank you for the lunch treat, Jo baba!) with a full tummy of dim sum, noodles and HK style milk tea, boxes of Re-Ment stuff, and a spanking new Blythe doll. A BL-2 (Hollywood) at that. Unplanned, but I love her to bits. *sighs happy sigh*
Which reminds me, my Blythe plages have been very much neglected – must get to it soon in the new year.

Christmas all over the place

I’m not sure if it’s because of my shocking organisation skills or othewise (I like to think positive and say otherwise!), I’ve been terribly behind in gift giving this Christmas. Other than getting the parents and the pets their gifts ON TIME, I’ve either not bothered with many others, or have gotten stuff post Christmas. I’m terrible, I know. :( (The sis hasn’t actually received anything from me either, but then again, she knows I love her to bits, and that card ‘from’ the hamsters should tide her over till I can think of a suitable stuff that doesn’t cost me an arm, or leg, or both. I *heart* you, Cher! And I DID offer to get a Disco Boogie or SMe for you. :D )

To summarise my slackness: I got my boss her pressie (a lovely little metal fortune cookie paperweight / card holder) two nights ago before popping by the shop to drop it off; a colleague’s present was bought pretty much on Christmas day itself (right before I saw her at work); another colleague’s gift was bought only yesterday; and hey, even JJ’s (i’m going to call the Boy that from now on) present (as seen in picture) is still with ME.

I’m actually tempted to keep his present for myself really. I first knew about ‘Chuck’ when working at the toystore back in 2001 when we actually had it, and other puzzles from Pentangle for sale (but I couldn’t afford it then). JJ loves wooden stuff. And puzzles. So I figured I’ll try to hunt one down for him. But of course our shop stopped bringing them in. So I had to source it online; bought it, and had it arrive from a Canadian company a few weeks back. I haven’t had the time or the right occasion to give it to him, but I guess Christmas would do. ;) . Here’s hoping the Australian customs don’t think that a wooden puzzle is worth confiscating when I’m at the airport!

(Edit: The sis has now gotten her Christmas AND upcoming birthday presents. Hah. Hope you like the anime, mobile and bracelet! ;) )

Of frivolity and such

I’m on the mend after that disgusting bout of flu which pretty much ruined my holidays, and am still on the meds, but at least I don’t feel like a zombie as much. Spent Christmas working at the toyshop, and was pleasantly surprised when we were able to close an hour early (with the boss’s blessings if we see our neighbours closing too), so I headed out for dinner with two colleagues; and since it was Christmas, we figured that it was enough reason to eat decently. ;) So it was dinner at Crystal Jade over at Scott’s where we feasted on handmade noodles, delectable dimsum, and other yummo goodies. The meal and company was fab, but GETTING to the restaurant was a nightmare since there was a road closure of the main street in the area for a festive performace thingamajig, which of course, made the people traffic madder than it would have been normally.

It’s now Boxing Day, and I’ve been enjoying my time at home just doing nothing. Leaving in a couple of days for Sydney/Newcastle and then to Melbourne, and I’m strangly nonchalent about it. Not going to be back in Singapore for a year at least, and probably will not even call Singapore home anymore, but I’m not feeling the sadness that usually accompanies such a big move. I wonder why that is?

I should really start packing (oh how often I say that!), but of course I will leave it till later. I’ve got more pressing things to do – like buying Christmas presents, for one. The 25th is past, but I’ve not done most of my gift giving. That’s how slack I am. Gifts for a few lovelies at work, and of course the boss, who has been such a great lady to work for. Oh, and of course for the Boy’s family.

For now, I’m enjoying my newly made glasses, which I’ve finally collected from the optometrist; looking through all my contacts’ Flickr streams, and mulling over if I should upgrade to WordPress 2.0 as yet. I’m a dud when it comes to such stuff, and I really don’t want to have to lose all my archives. Backup, you say? Occasionally, I say. But I’m still sure something’s going to fuck up. :D
