ABOUT MS*POLLY
THE GIRL: I’m 25 years young and was born in the fair island of Singapore. Currently, the family and I are in the process of shifting our asses, and lives to Melbourne, Australia, where we hope to be very rich and very happy through various means – not including anything illegal, of course. (For the moment, the sistah, mütter and I are here, while the väter shuttles between Singapore and here for business.) I went to uni in 2001 with the sole purpose of graduating as an architect. Four years, one bachelor degree and two failed attempts at staying in 4th year later, I’ve decided that I’m too jaded in the industry to continue. I don’t see it as a waste of time because I can now differentiate between Koolhaas and Bauhaus, and make kickarse models. Currently back at uni and am enrolled in my first semester here, doing of all things, a masters in applied commerce. Could I get any further away from architecture? I think not. I like to think I’m creative, and love the idea of making things for myself. I’ve started doing “dainty craft” lately, and am revelling in the stitching, knitting, and assembly of things. I don’t have a craft studio with a sewing machine, labelled boxes of buttons and yarn like some do (yet!), but I DO have my own collection of power tools. And I hope to make my own armchair someday. (And upholster it too!) I recently got engaged to my green eyed boy; he popped the question on my 25th birthday. He’s my best friend, lover, soul mate, and the love of my life. We’ve been together four years, and now I’m hoping to spend the rest of my life with him. No wedding bells yet though – we’ll both have to get our damn uni degrees first! I’ve “got a thing” for a couple of things: my boy, uggboots, hamsters, bubbletea, Blythe dolls and anime, among others.
THE DOMAIN: Contrary to belief, mspolly.com is not named after me in any way. It rhymes with my name, but. This domain, was born on the 18th Aug 05, and actually had an accompanying website/blog that followed. A year later, and being a tight-arse that I am, I’ve cancelled my web hosting plans and am now relying on wordpress.com for blogging services. The name ‘ mspolly’ is actually inspired by my pillow, which I called Polly. She has no face, wears a dress, is stuffed full of little microbeads, and is made of 92% cotton and 8% spandex. Illustrations here are done on Adobe Illustrator and sometimes edited with Photoshop and Paint Shop Pro, although I’m not very good with them either. Help is sometimes given by friends who know this web design thing better than I ever will, and from books I borrow from the community library. I will whinge and rant as much as I want on the site (because it’s MY site); post pictures of things I like, hate, covet, or have made (because it’s MY site); and be forever loved and adored throughout the world (because I’m irresistable). I’ve kept blogs before this, of course, but none with as much determination as now to keep it going. The site’s is licensed under a Creative Commons Attribution-NonCommercial-NoDerivs 2.5 License , so as long as you give me credit for the stuff you use for non-commercial purposes, and publish any modified work from here under a similar license, we’re all happy chappies.
