No, not for myself – first of all, I’m not big on spending a ridiculous amount of money on costumes; nor am I good enough to sew myself any fancy dress, and also, I’m not really into the whole dressing up thing – although I have no problems with my dollies doing so!
And thus, I’m sewing Catie (yay, the darling’s back home!) an outfit modelled afer Morodashi from xxxHolic. Hell, I’ve already done Catie’s hair up in Moro’s hairstyle.
UPDATE: I’m getting better at this handsewing thing, I think! This time, it’s only taken me one night to complete – wings and all! I was just happy that it fitted, actually. Patterns and I don’t have an affinity; no matter how closely I keep to the pattern and cutting process, I’ve got so many failed attempts where the outfit just didnt fit.
Now I’m going to get started on Marudashi’s (Moro’s partner) outfit. As soon as I can find a decent picture of said outfit!
Had a great day trip up to the Dandenong area yesterday with Eva, Grace and Simone from ATP with our Blythes and it was trés fun! The girls didn’t have anything new to wear for the meet, so I whipped up two handsewn corduroy overalls for them the night before. It’s nice to finally be able to use some of the cord material I bought at Lincraft eons back.
Didn’t really enjoy getting up early to catch the train from Flinders by my lonesome, but I treated myself to a Belgian waffle with maple syrup from the station, so it wasn’t too bad. And Grace and Eva met me at Glenferrie station for the rest of the journey up.
Spent a glorious (albeit VERY chilly and foggy) day in Sassafras and Olinda lunching at Miss Marple’s and popping into the tea shop next door for a peek and photos. Also went across the road to a toystore and scored myself a new carry case to put the girls in at nearly half the price with a little bargaining on my part. Sweeeeeeet as. Went around taking photos in the lovely setting found practically everywhere in that area, and headed back to Simone’s place for tea, chat and a little customising. It was great to meet her hubby, daughter (I adore her little curls!) and the cats. Mmm, cats. Took the train back with Eva and had korean for dindin with her. Scrummy. A big thank you to her and Jack for the ride home too.
Was going to head out to a classmate’s birthday bash that evening, but by the time I got home, I was so blissfully exhausted that I didn’t really want to head out again. Why spoil a good day by the possibilities of loud music and drunkenness behaviour? Unless that’s your idea of fun on a saturday.
I’ve been making a couple of things lately for dollies with the intention of selling them to to fund a dream doll (or two), but since I don’t really have the time to do anything fancy because of the impending exams, miniature scaled magazines are all I’ve got time for. The first batch of B! mags are going to be shipped out to Cindy in Singapore tomorrow, and I’m thrilled with how they’ve turned out (except for the silly typo, but Cindy doesn’t mind it). Did a simple little label just for the fun of it, and am chuffed. Small things amuse this small mind.
(For those of you who’ve been readers here since the early days, you’ll notice the illustration of the girl on the packaging has been on my masthead before. She was dug up from the dusty archives of my folders, and I think both she and I are mighty glad I did that.
)
Time to start on the next batch for Karen – who has been so patiently waiting. Thanks, hon!
I’m not sure what it is, but the fact that I probably screwed up my mid sememster for accounting doesn’t seem to bother me much – or maybe it hasn’t sunk in yet. It’s been years since I last set for any form of paper exam; the last exam I sat for was for the Cambridge ‘A’ levels back in ‘99. *phew*
Anyway, post test, I’ve been finishing up stuff for swaps that I’ve been neglecting. My parcel for May’s Color-iffic Swap-o-Rama is finished and all set to go, and I’ve also started (and about to finish!) the batches of miniature Blythe sized magazines that I’ve promised a few friends. Have also started knitting another Blythe sized bag for one of the friends who are waiting for the mags. I’ve now got to wrap up Amy’s presents, and I’ll pretty much be set for my trip to the post office tomorrow morning.
*feels chuffed*
(Photo: collage including a photo of my dollyhouse’s kitchen table with re-ment miniatures and the commisioned mag I did, and thumbnails of stuff included in my Yellow/Orange swap. Don’t know why the photo turned all grainy when I uploaded it here. Weird.)
It’s been a while since I did anything crafty that I was happy about (or even done anything crafty at all!), but for the past few days, I’ve been working on a package of goodies for a friend since we agreed to trade dolly stuff. For two lovely outfits, a pair of ugg boots, and a necklace she made for my Blythes, I’m giving her the following: four miniature (to scale) magazines, a handmade top, a beaded curtain with curtain rod, a knitted handbag and scarf, and a handmade lollipop. Larger sized photos can be found here and here. I’ve had pretty encouraging comments about the stuff I made, and two more swaps for my mini magazines, so I’m quite chuffed.
I’m toying with the idea of making a couple of variations of the bags for sale too, but we’ll see how it goes.
In equally Blythe related news: going for a customising meet at Nat’s today! It’s going to be a largish turnout, and we’re having a mini potluck lunch, so I hope I’ve made enough almond jelly with lychees to go around. Photos to come!
