Don’t they have anything else better to do?

Just read this article, and must say, I’m rather miffed by how some people can be such idiots. What’s wrong with taking photos of scenery/objects other than obvious statues and landmarks?

“It was just the facades of buildings, things that would be of no interest to put in a photo album.”

OH PLEASE.

I was an architecture student, and I must be such a weirdo to actually take an interest in the facades of buildings. Incidentally, I have photos of the facades of several buildings around Melbourne, including the Commonwealth Law Courts.

Students and photographers find everyday objects and details so much more interesting to capture on film. And one can find beauty in the most unexpected things. Can you tell I’m miffed? I don’t frequent the Southgate areas to take photos very often, but I’ll be sure to make a conscious effort not to visit there anytime soon.

Out of sorts and a grumpy woman

I’m back from Newcastle, and am feeling so … out of sorts. Don’t know why, and I hate it.

The trip to Newcastle was alright; got to meet up with more people this trip round (although I’m sorry to Anj for it being a really short/hurried one, and to Helen for not even managing to catch up at all!). Had a little bbq with people that I went to uni with one evening, and it was nice to catch up on the goss. I miss being in architecture, somewhat.

On the last two days of my time there, James, his parents and I took a trip to Tamworth to visit some family friends – yeah, I’m earning major brownie points with the future in-laws here. :D An overall enjoyable trip, except for some hiccups or two, which were entirely my own fault. Unless I get to know someone on my own terms, I never really feel comfortable being social; so having to be charming to people I’ve just met (who probably know more about me than I know of them) is VERY unnerving for me. I think I passed muster though.

Back in Melbourne now, and the rain and bleak weather isn’t helping with the mood. There’s so many things I’ve yet to finish, but somehow, I don’t have the energy to get stuck into it. Not even playing with dollies (even Eva’s Faye!) help much. The only exciting thing that I did since coming back was to go to the Eames exhibition down at Fed Square. James’ enthusiasm for Ray and Charles Eames’ design work must have rubbed off on me somewhat, because I thoroughly enjoyed viewing all the chairs and work that was on display. Hey, I even got to sit in the famous classic Eames’ armchair!

What the?!

The server’s been acting mighty strange of late – my mail directory mysteriously disappeared from the face of the planet, and none of the blog entries I’ve entered actually appeared on the blog. Pah. Not going to redo any of them (what’s the point?), so will just have to whinge and live with it.

Back in Melbourne (ah, sweet Melbourne!), and I’m pleasantly surprised that a lovely contributor to the Melbourne Metblog has actually wrote an entry about my dollies. Blog entry can be read HERE.

Day trip up the mountains

Had a great day trip up to the Dandenong area yesterday with Eva, Grace and Simone from ATP with our Blythes and it was trĂ©s fun! The girls didn’t have anything new to wear for the meet, so I whipped up two handsewn corduroy overalls for them the night before. It’s nice to finally be able to use some of the cord material I bought at Lincraft eons back.

Didn’t really enjoy getting up early to catch the train from Flinders by my lonesome, but I treated myself to a Belgian waffle with maple syrup from the station, so it wasn’t too bad. And Grace and Eva met me at Glenferrie station for the rest of the journey up. :D

Spent a glorious (albeit VERY chilly and foggy) day in Sassafras and Olinda lunching at Miss Marple’s and popping into the tea shop next door for a peek and photos. Also went across the road to a toystore and scored myself a new carry case to put the girls in at nearly half the price with a little bargaining on my part. Sweeeeeeet as. Went around taking photos in the lovely setting found practically everywhere in that area, and headed back to Simone’s place for tea, chat and a little customising. It was great to meet her hubby, daughter (I adore her little curls!) and the cats. Mmm, cats. Took the train back with Eva and had korean for dindin with her. Scrummy. A big thank you to her and Jack for the ride home too.

Was going to head out to a classmate’s birthday bash that evening, but by the time I got home, I was so blissfully exhausted that I didn’t really want to head out again. Why spoil a good day by the possibilities of loud music and drunkenness behaviour? Unless that’s your idea of fun on a saturday. ;)

Out to the ranges tomorrow

Heading out to the Dandenong area tomorrow for a dolly meet with Simone, Eva and Grace, and can’t wait! It should be nice and cold (but sunny!) tomorrow, so it would be perfect for photos. Camera’s all charged, and now all I have to do is finish up a dress I’m sewing for the occasion, and decide which girl to bring along.

In other news, I’ve finally started doing something about my dolly fund. Put some items up on TIB for sale, and have sold quite a few items, so I’m happy. Now all I have to do is resist spending any of it before I reach the target amount. Must. Not. Look. On. Ebay. ><
